JFK and Victura"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember that wonderful book, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Wind_in_the_Willows\"><em>The Wind in the Willows<\/em><\/a> and that famous quote uttered by Rat as he and Mole were rowing up the canal? \u00a0\u00a0&#8220;Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing \u2014 absolutely nothing \u2014 half so much worth doing as simply\u00a0messing about in boats.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I am sure that there are many among you that feel the same way so I expect that you will enjoy this short piece about JFK and is 30 year love affair with his Wiano Senior, &#8220;Victura&#8221; , a gift from his father on his 15th birthday. \u00a0This video was released recently in recognition of what would have been JFK&#8217;s 100th birthday. \u00a0<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CoK5v8EkGBM?ecver=1\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>Shortly after\u00a0Brenda and I were first married we purchased our first\u00a0&#8220;boat to mess around in&#8221; and while our current Pandora, nearly 40 years later, can be quite a hand full and has taken us far and wide, I do have\u00a0many fond memories of our early years of &#8220;messing about in boats&#8221;. \u00a0There is certainly a simplicity of purpose when boats, and life, are not so complicated.<\/p>\n<p>My good friend and now famous marine artist,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenwichworkshop.com\/blossom\/\">Christopher Blossom<\/a>\u00a0gave me\u00a0this lovely portrait of Brenda and me aboard our first boat, TAO, a 20&#8242; Cape Cod Catboat sailing off of Fairfield CT as a birthday present many years ago.\u00a0<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7276\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/11-12-16b-003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4561\" height=\"3273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/11-12-16b-003.jpg 4561w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/11-12-16b-003-300x215.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/11-12-16b-003-768x551.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/11-12-16b-003-1024x735.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/11-12-16b-003-800x574.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 4561px) 100vw, 4561px\" \/>Of course, even if our boats and lives have become more complicated, there&#8217;s always Pandora&#8217;s mascot Louis to remind us of simpler times as he gazes out at the world as it rushes by aboard Pandora. \u00a0\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7250\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/5-24-17a-075.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/5-24-17a-075.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/5-24-17a-075-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>I&#8217;m sure, that mice, rats, moles and even Presidents alike will agree that indeed, &#8220;there is nothing \u2014 absolutely nothing \u2014 half so much worth doing as simply\u00a0messing about in boats.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A happy 100th Birthday to JFK. \u00a0 A boy that loved messing around in boats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember that wonderful book, The Wind in the Willows and that famous quote uttered by Rat as he and Mole were rowing up the canal?
