{"id":6684,"date":"2017-02-26T07:36:45","date_gmt":"2017-02-26T12:36:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=6684"},"modified":"2017-02-26T07:37:06","modified_gmt":"2017-02-26T12:37:06","slug":"home-is-where-we-are","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=6684","title":{"rendered":"Home is where WE are&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have been anchored in a lovely harbor, Nonsuch Bay, on the most eastern end of Antigua for the last few days along with perhaps 15 other boats. \u00a0At first glance, it looks very exposed as the view east, the direction of the prevailing winds and no land, between us and the other side of the Atlantic, to block the wind. \u00a0 Fortunately, the trade winds have been pretty light for a few days so it&#8217;s been particularly calm here. \u00a0 I understand, from Bill on Kalunamoo, who we are traveling with, that this place is most popular when the winds are light, hence the large number of boats.<\/p>\n<p>As we left the harbor, we passed this &#8220;sailing&#8221; cruise ship. \u00a0I think it would take a virtual hurricane to get this baby moving under sail alone.\u00a0<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6688\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-021.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-021.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-021-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>This was more my type of &#8220;cruise ship&#8221;. \u00a0I expect that there is a very good ratio of crew to guests on this beauty as it&#8217;s a private yacht. \u00a0In my next life perhaps&#8230; \u00a0Perhaps not&#8230;<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6687\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-012.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-012.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-012-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>Anyway, as we made our way down the coast toward Nunsuch Bay we passed some really dramatic scenery. \u00a0Not particularly lush as Antigua is a dry island but beautiful, never the less. \u00a0 That&#8217;s Kalunamoo, Bill and Maureen&#8217;s year round home (the boat, not Antigua), BTW. \u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6689\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-030.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-030.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-030-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>However, in spite of the &#8220;nothing between us and Spain thing&#8221;, the water in this harbor is flat calm, compliments of a reef that breaks the waves completely. Nearby there is a tiny, oh so scenic beach. \u00a0I took our dink there for a walk. \u00a0Not the dink. \u00a0I went for the walk. \u00a0The dink stayed on the beach, of course. \u00a0 The area near the beach is rugged and I couldn&#8217;t find a trail, but the cove, lovely.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6690\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-033.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"1050\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-033.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-033-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-033-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-033-533x800.jpg 533w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>Pandora&#8217;s new mascot and crew member Louis, (that is to be pronounced with a decidedly French accent, of course as he is from St Martin, on the French side) was happy to lounge for the afternoon on one of the &#8220;chaise&#8221; lounge chairs aboard Pandora. \u00a0 He has settled in nicely to life aboard Pandora.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6686\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-006.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-006.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-006-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>One tradition with couples aboard cruising boats, well at least the ones we know, is to get together for &#8220;sundowners&#8221; and pot luck suppers. \u00a0 And, last night we hosted a gathering aboard Pandora for the &#8220;crews&#8221; of six boats. \u00a0 \u00a0Louis was quite excited and spent much of the afternoon waiting for his &#8220;friends&#8221; to show up. \u00a0He gazed longingly at Kalunamoo, waiting for Bill and Maureen to visit, particularly Maureen as Louis is French, of course.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6685\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-003.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-003-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>Finally they arrived. \u00a0He was happy that the &#8220;guys&#8221; on the evening, the sun put on a wonderful display with a perfect setting. \u00a0And you know how much I just love sunsets.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6692\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-037.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-037.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2-26-17b-037-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>It is evenings like this that are among the best of cruising and to be in a &#8220;far away&#8221; harbor among friends is a great way to spend time together. \u00a0Yes, home is indeed where we are and right now that&#8217;s aboard Pandora. \u00a0Besides, Brenda likes to say that her favorite part of cruising is &#8220;being anchored&#8221;
