{"id":4372,"date":"2015-04-13T12:02:02","date_gmt":"2015-04-13T12:02:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=4372"},"modified":"2015-04-13T12:02:02","modified_gmt":"2015-04-13T12:02:02","slug":"pandoras-grand-unraveling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=4372","title":{"rendered":"Pandora\u2019s \u201cGrand\u201d unraveling."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #444444;\">It\u2019s Monday morning and Pandora\u2019s secure on the dock in New Bern NC at the New Bern Grand marina. \u00a0It&#8217;s hard to believe that we are here after months of saying &#8220;we are headed to New Bern&#8230;&#8221;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-006.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4373\" title=\"4-13-15a 006\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-006.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-006.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-006-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>Well, we&#8217;re here, on the dock and it&#8217;s time to act. \u00a0So, yesterday we began what will take us much of the rest of the week, the unraveling of 8 years of our life aboard Pandora. \u00a0It&#8217;s hard to believe that after all this time we are finally doing it. \u00a0We are selling Pandora. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444;\">However, all is not lost as we will, in less than two weeks, be taking delivery on the &#8220;new&#8221; Pandora, the Aerodyne 47 that I have written about in past posts. \u00a0 I won&#8217;t belabor this except to if you have somehow missed my incessant ramblings on the subject, you can see a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=3885\">post that I did<\/a> a while back about the new boat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t recall if I already posted this photo, but the boat, now Ariel, soon to be Pandora, was photographed in the Bahamas a few weeks ago by a friend. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/ariel.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4374\" title=\"ariel\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/ariel-680x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"752\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/ariel-680x1024.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/ariel-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/ariel.jpg 1702w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #444444;\">We made great progress yesterday as we began removing personal items and a lot of &#8220;stuff&#8221; that has accumulated over the years. \u00a0We have not yet gotten to some of the areas that are really deeply buried and I expect that we will find some surprises. \u00a0I am fearful that I will finally locate the bag of dry cat food we brought aboard three years ago to feed tropical fish in the Bahamas. \u00a0I have searched and searched and have never been able to locate it. \u00a0Here fishy fishy&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444;\">It&#8217;s going to take lots of boxes to get all the stuff into our rental car so we made a run to to pick up some up at the local liquor store. \u00a0We thought that we had plenty. \u00a0Not even close . \u00a0No<\/span><span style=\"color: #444444;\">w things weren&#8217;t quite as neat and tidy as is normally the case aboard Pandora.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-009.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4375\" title=\"4-13-15a 009\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-009.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-009.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-009-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>The aft cabin has really gotten out of control. \u00a0While I consider myself to a pretty tidy guy, Brenda disagrees and has labeled me a &#8220;closet messy&#8221;. \u00a0Perhaps the aft cabin is often a bit cluttered but this is over the top. \u00a0 And, that&#8217;s not even the half of it.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-010.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4376\" title=\"4-13-15a 010\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-010.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-010.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-010-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>A small amount, so far, spilled out onto the dock. \u00a0Off to the van we rented. \u00a0And, this is only the beginning. \u00a0Hope it all fits.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-011.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4377\" title=\"4-13-15a 011\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-011.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-011-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>After a long day of unpacking and cleaning we decided to take a walk in New Bern last evening. \u00a0What a beautiful city. \u00a0This is the city hall building and it&#8217;s still in use. \u00a0Great brick work.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4378\" title=\"4-13-15a 001\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-001.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-001-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>We also visited a local landmark, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tryonpalace.org\/governors-palace\">Tryon Palace<\/a>\u00a0once the home to the Colonial Governor prior to the revolution. \u00a0 What a spot. It was the first constructed in 1770 but was destroyed by fire less than 20 years later. \u00a0A major fund raising initiative was conducted in New Bern and the grounds and buildings were rebuilt in the 1950s. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4379\" title=\"4-13-15a 021\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-021.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-021.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-021-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>The locals are quite proud of this museum and work hard to keep everything in top shape. \u00a0The compound has some terrific buildings. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-034.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4380\" title=\"4-13-15a 034\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-034.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-034.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-034-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>This is a favorite spot for weddings and we had to work hard to stay out of the way of three, count em three, brides having pictures taken. \u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-029.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4381\" title=\"4-13-15a 029\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-029.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-029.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-029-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>The azaleas are in full bloom as is much everything else. \u00a0 The Pollen count is sky high. \u00a0It&#8217;s on everything, coating yellow everywhere including my nose. Yuck&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-026.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4387\" title=\"4-13-15a 026\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-026.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-026.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-026-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #444444;\">The gardens are spectacular. \u00a0How about a espaliered apple tree.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-038.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4382\" title=\"4-13-15a 038\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-038.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-038.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-038-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>They must have someone on staff that loves trimming hedges as they are everywhere and in perfect shape.<br \/>\n<a sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>The gardens go on and on&#8230; \u00a0<span style=\"color: #444444;\">At home gardens are my problem. \u00a0&#8220;Bob, wouldn&#8217;t it be great if we had a garden here? \u00a0Grass is just so boring.&#8221; \u00a0 No, I&#8217;ll just stand and enjoy someone else&#8217;s work right now.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/4-13-15a-045.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4385\" title=\"4-13-15a 045\"
