{"id":413,"date":"2012-05-26T11:52:30","date_gmt":"2012-05-26T11:52:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=413"},"modified":"2012-05-29T12:50:54","modified_gmt":"2012-05-29T12:50:54","slug":"beryling-down-on-beautiful-beaufort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=413","title":{"rendered":"Beryl Barrelling down on Beautiful Beaufort"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here we sit in beautiful Beaufort, NC, for a few more days courtesy of the second tropical storm of the season, Beryl.\u00a0 Who would have guessed that we would have delays caused by two, count em, two (so far) named storms as we head north from Nassau? \u00a0I am not going home until I have enjoyed all of the named storms of this season.<\/p>\n<p>However, I can imagine worse places to spend Memorial Day weekend than a place crammed with cruisers from all over.\u00a0 I met a nice couple yesterday who live aboard a Hallberg Rassy 35 and have been cruising for the last two years.\u00a0\u00a0 As most insurance companies require their insured to be north of Cape Hatteras by June 1st, \u00a0the result is \u00a0there is a constant stream of cruisers coming through Beaufort as they move northward.<\/p>\n<p>One particular draw of Beaufort is the fact that the Intra Coastal Waterway here offers a safe way to avoid going outside around Hatteras, sometimes called &#8220;the graveyard of the Atlantic&#8221;.\u00a0 Boats with a mast height less than 65&#8242; \u00a0can travel inside and avoid bad weather off shore.\u00a0\u00a0 In our case, Beryl (remember her?) is out there with strong NE winds, the very direction you want to avoid in the north flowing Gulf Stream which kick up some really awful conditions.\u00a0 As <em>The Abby&#8217;s<\/em> mast is plenty taller than 65&#8242;, we have no choice but to wait until things calm down and go outside.<\/p>\n<p>So, what&#8217;s a sailor to do when stuck in a beautiful resort town on Memorial Day weekend?\u00a0 EAT!!!<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, at least one of our crew, Mark, is a very good cook and with our able help, we are not starving.\u00a0 Just take a look at this spread from lunch the other day, salad Nicoise and a nice rose\u00b4.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/P10118441.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-416\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/P10118441.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3264\" height=\"2448\" \/><\/a>Our chef is the grey haired gentleman on the left.\u00a0 No wait, we are all grey.\u00a0 Well, he is still the one on the left.\u00a0 Me?
