Their site is very interesting if you read Portuguese, that&#8217;s great. \u00a0If not, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cabecasdoreguengo.com\/en\/home-turismo.html\">check out their site<\/a>\u00a0anyway\u00a0and click on &#8220;EN&#8221;, for English, on the upper right of the home page. One way or the other, it&#8217;s a very interesting spot and the story behind it is particularly unique as the owner is a retired ballet dancer.<\/p>\n<p>Really nice room.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-041.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3819\" title=\"11-8-14a 041\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-041.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-041.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-041-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>The bathroom is marvelous and marble. \u00a0The picture does not do it justice.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-042.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3820\" title=\"11-8-14a 042\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-042.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-042.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-042-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>This is the view that we woke up to today. \u00a0Not bad for a rainy day. \u00a0 The siting of the building, new this year, is very well thought out. \u00a0The hotel is a completely modern design and yet looks right at home among the older homes dotting the nearby landscape. They also have a vineyard on the property and the wine is very nice. \u00a0We liked the white as it&#8217;s more full bodied than most Portuguese wines, more like a California with a fair amount of oak. \u00a0Very nice. It&#8217;s obvious that the hand of an artist was behind it all. \u00a0What a view to wake up to, infinity pool and all. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-045.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3801\" title=\"11-8-14a 045\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-045.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-045.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-045-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>Yesterday we drove the 4.5 hours south from northern Portugal where we had spent much of the last two weeks. \u00a0This is our final stop prior to returning to Lisbon on Sunday where we will spend the last few days of our trip before we return to the U.S. \u00a0I expect that we&#8217;ll fine some fun things to do to occupy us until the 12th.<\/p>\n<p>As a special treat, Brenda&#8217;s friend Leslie is flying in from England to spend the night with us on Sunday. \u00a0I expect that the &#8220;girls&#8221; will be up to all hours as they have not seen each other for years. \u00a0 It&#8217;s a good thing that we have two rooms as I am sure that they will be up all night talking. \u00a0&#8220;Brenda? Leslie?, is it bedtime yet? I need sleep&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the ride yesterday took us from the mountainous north of Portugal where vineyards and olive trees dominate the landscape to this area where it&#8217;s much more postural with cows, sheep and rolling hills. \u00a0 \u00a0After days of terrifying switchbacks and steep drop-offs, it&#8217;s nice to again be in a &#8220;less dramatic&#8221; area.<\/p>\n<p>This video is of the white knuckle run down the road from our inn high up on the mountain in the Doruo valley to the village of Pinhao down near the river. \u00a0Trust me that this video doesn&#8217;t do justice to the nail biting around hairpin turns, all the way.<iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uSkn_DtIjGA\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe>This town isn&#8217;t on the itinerary of most tourists as it&#8217;s overshadowed by some of the more dramatic destinations such as Sintra, with huge castles looming over quaint villages. Never the less, it&#8217;s lovely here but the attraction for us was the <span style=\"color: #444444; font-size: 14px;\">tapestry museum and workshop, one of the best in Europe, a place that Brenda, a tapestry artist herself, \u00a0just had to see. \u00a0We visited it yesterday and it was indeed fascinating. \u00a0I&#8217;ll post one shot of a major piece, and it&#8217;s huge and quite impressive. \u00a0 That&#8217;s Brenda to the left. \u00a0Big piece&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-026.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3821\" title=\"11-8-14a 026\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-026.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-026.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-026-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>The level of detail is really impressive. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-027.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3822\" title=\"11-8-14a 027\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-027.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"933\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-027.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/11-8-14a-027-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>However, I&#8217;ll leave the details to Brenda who will no doubt write about it in her blog soon. More to come on that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On our last day in Casal de Loivos, perched on the side of a mountain, we decided to head out for another walk in the vineyards for a picnic. \u00a0Years ago, when Brenda and I were in college together, we used to picnic with wine, cheese and bread. \u00a0Our outing brought back memories from another lifetime. \u00a0Nice memories for sure but I very much enjoy being a &#8220;grownup&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, we collected the items for lunch the day before in shops in the nearby village so we were ready to go. \u00a0What a great time we had in spite of the light drizzle. \u00a0Actually, after hiking up the mountain we were plenty warm and happily we found a beautiful olive tree to sit under with our legs dangling over an ancient stone wall on the side of, you guessed it, a vineyard. \u00a0Rain? \u00a0What rain? \u00a0That&#8217;s just dew&#8230; \u00a0It was a perfect moment.<\/p>\n<p>We had a very nice spread of local wine and all. \u00a0I even remembered to bring a cork screw. \u00a0 Good thing or I would have had to whack the bottle against a rock to open it. \u00a0 Editor: \u00a0However, notice the &#8220;fine crystal&#8221; to the right of the bottle. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG_2810.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3802\" title=\"IMG_2810\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG_2810.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG_2810.jpg 525w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/IMG_2810-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a>Oops, I forgot the glasses. \u00a0Not to worry, I&#8217;ll cut up a water bottle, with a cheese knife. (Don&#8217;t try this at home, Professional wineglass maker in residence) \u00a0I used the top part of the bottle as it almost looks like a wine glass, if a bit tippy. women cutting old growth from vines in a vineyard (yes, lots of vineyards there)\u00a0and putting them on a fire. \u00a0We stopped to talk. \u00a0There was lots of &#8220;talking at each other&#8221;
