{"id":3631,"date":"2014-10-24T18:56:07","date_gmt":"2014-10-24T18:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=3631"},"modified":"2014-10-24T18:56:07","modified_gmt":"2014-10-24T18:56:07","slug":"another-day-another-castle-and-lunch-on-the-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=3631","title":{"rendered":"Another day, another castle&#8230; and lunch on the beach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s Friday afternoon and we just got back from a day of exploring. \u00a0Our first stop of the day was a lovely medieval town nestled inside the walls of an impressive castle. \u00a0 This one was, as they all are, perched on the top of a hill, but it seems that the owners of this one had to settle for a lot less vertical drop which must have made for a much easier life of it. \u00a0At least until some other group of tough guys came on the scene looking for a new place to live. \u00a0 I guess that this particular town wasn&#8217;t pillaged to often as here we are today with a town that&#8217;s still intact and occupied.<\/p>\n<p>The castle walls surrounding the town are quite impressive and I would guess that there are more than 100 tidy homes nestled within it&#8217;s walls. \u00a0 I didn&#8217;t have the foresight to take a shot from the road as we approached. \u00a0You&#8217;ll just have to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C3%93bidos,_Portugal\">click here<\/a> to see a description of it. \u00a0It seems that this place has been occupied since the Romans. \u00a0That&#8217;s a long time. \u00a0I&#8217;ll bet that there have been a slew of renovations since then. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-015.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3632\" title=\"10-24-14a 015\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-015.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-015.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-015-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>As you enter the walls of the city, you are greeted by, guess what? \u00a0Tiles. \u00a0What else. \u00a0We are in Portugal after all.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-003.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3633\" title=\"10-24-14a 003\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-003.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-003-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>Everywhere you turn there is a beautiful view. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-005.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3634\" title=\"10-24-14a 005\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-005.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"933\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-005.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-005-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>There were several churches within the castle walls. \u00a0Yes, they invited them to join them with much arm waving. \u00a0Alas, no takers.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-030.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3641\" title=\"10-24-14a 030\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-030.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-030.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-030-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>Everywhere there is even a tiny bit of protection from the surf, there will be fishing boats. \u00a0Launching through the surf is just part of a day. \u00a0 And just on the other side of the cove you can see a beach. \u00a0We saw, lunch!<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-042-Copy-Copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3644\" title=\"10-24-14a 042 - Copy - Copy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-042-Copy-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-042-Copy-Copy.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/10-24-14a-042-Copy-Copy-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #444444; font-size: 14px;\">And after an exhausting few hours of touring of course, we had to have lunch, of course. \u00a0The view from our table. \u00a0Not so bad. \u00a0Food and wine? \u00a0Good too. The road on the beach is on a narrow spit of land connecting this tiny island with the main land. \u00a0I&#8217;ll bet that there are times when the road isn&#8217;t passable.<a getting dark so I guess it&#8217;s time to eat again. \u00a0Yikes, we had better walk lots tomorrow to work all of this food off. \u00a0Did someone say
