 Boat repair in exotic locales."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #444444;\">It\u2019s Sunday morning and, I can\u2019t believe I am saying this, there\u2019s not enough wind.\u00a0 Go figure.\u00a0 After months of TOO MUCH WIND, and constant fronts coming through the Bahamas, we are (fingers crossed) entering a week of moderate easterly trade winds and calm conditions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I am afraid to say it but as the weather router is saying the same thing, perhaps I won\u2019t be jinxing it by wishing for the best.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was unusual with rain and drizzle for much of the day.\u00a0 Along with the rain came very light winds, something that I had been waiting for as I had to pull down my genoa (sail) for a minor repair as there was a small rip on the luff tape (if you know what a luff is that\u2019s good, if not, don\u2019t worry).\u00a0\u00a0 However I didn\u2019t want to deal with 600 square feet of sail on the foredeck unless the wind was light.\u00a0 So, after perhaps 6 weeks of waiting, yesterday was the day.\u00a0 Sail down\u2026<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/4-13-14a-005.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2973\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/4-13-14a-005.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"933\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/4-13-14a-005.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/4-13-14a-005-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #444444;\">As I didn\u2019t bring my heavy duty sewing machine with me on this trip, I had to resort of hand sewing and adhesive sail cloth tape.\u00a0 It was pretty crowded up forward with the sail down.\u00a0 Happily, I was able to do much of the work prior to the light rain starting.\u00a0 As you can imagine, the sail repair tape wouldn\u2019t have stuck well to a wet sail.\u00a0\u00a0 Lots of sail to contend with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I stitched the damaged area as best I could and then applied sail repair tape over the stitching.\u00a0 After that, more stitching.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/4-13-14a-007.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2974\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/4-13-14a-007.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #444444;\">The finished work.\u00a0 Not great to look at but it should hold till I get a proper repair done at a sail loft.\u00a0 I usually take the sails to a loft each winter for washing and repair.\u00a0 As I am no longer putting the boat into storage in the winter, I didn\u2019t do that last fall.\u00a0 My mistake as the problem would have shown up and been repaired correctly.\u00a0\u00a0 Well, good enough for now.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/4-13-14a-008.jpg\"><img there are always problems, big and little on a boat and Pandora\u2019s no different.\u00a0 As I had mentioned the other day, I had to sort through an electrical problem a few days ago.\u00a0 I was able to track down the problem but still don\u2019t know how it happened.\u00a0 Here I am working away on a solution.\u00a0 Q: Did anyone notice that I have become a bit grey?\u00a0 Hmm\u2026\u00a0<a We\u2019ll have to think about it for a few more hours and see how the breezes develop.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It could be a nice easy sail today.\u00a0 That would be great.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Our friends Russell and Lynn, aboard Blue Highway, got an early start today and sailed past us as I was sitting in the cockpit having a cup of coffee in my jammies.\u00a0\u00a0 Nice people.<a
