It\u2019s Wednesday morning and we are still here in Thompson Bay Long Island.\u00a0 Yesterday we decided NOT to head over to the Jumentos, after all my posts to the contrary, as the weather for next week is looking fairly nasty.\u00a0 As I mentioned many times, the Jumentos are not well protected when fronts come through and it looks like the next one will be fairly bad as has been the case much of the winter.\u00a0 As a friend told me yesterday, \u201cthe Jumentos will still be there next year\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 Indeed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Happily, there is plenty to do here on Long Island as it\u2019s quite large.\u00a0 So, the plan is to do some short sails to the northern part of the island over the next few days and then come back here to where it is \u201csort of\u201d protected from the expected clocking winds.\u00a0 Actually, it\u2019s exposed to the south west but hopefully, the winds won\u2019t be from that direction for long or be very strong.<\/p>\n

We also plan on renting a car for a few days to see the sights on LI.\u00a0 Last year we did that and had a great time.\u00a0 There is only one road that runs from north to south so it\u2019s not hard to find your way around. \u00a0We are continuing to “buddy boat” with our friends on Nati so that will make the week even more enjoyable.<\/p>\n

One of the things that I really enjoy visiting the Bahamas is watching the dramatic clouds.\u00a0 Sometimes they are combined along with big winds as well but not always. \u00a0Can you say “squall”? \u00a0On our last night in Georgetown a front came through the area bringing with it quite a show.\u00a0 We had drenching rain, if only for about 15-30 minutes.\u00a0 It was nice to get Pandora rinsed off.\u00a0 However that didn\u2019t last long as our run over to LI the next day got the boat pretty salty.<\/p>\n

I was particularly struck by the sunset that evening.\u00a0 As the sun set we could still see blue sky above and the orange sun setting below.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t look real.\u00a0 Quite a shot.\"\"<\/a>A bit later, a beautiful sunset too. \u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/span>It\u2019s amazing to watch the light change as the minutes tick by.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So, today a short 20 mile run north to an area called Joe\u2019s Sound.\u00a0 We heard that there are lots of sea turtles there.\u00a0 Should be fun.<\/p>\n

More to come but it\u2019s time to shove off.<\/p>\n
