That&#8217;s good!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday we moved from Elizabeth City to the Alligator River, our destination for the day.<\/p>\n<p>I am happy to report that the work that the mechanic Dave did on Pandora\u2019s engine the other day seems to have worked out perfectly.\u00a0 No dripping of fuel or oil.\u00a0 A big improvement, that\u2019s for sure. \u00a0\u00a0I plan to have a discussion with the yard that worked on Pandora this summer.\u00a0 I can\u2019t really say that I am particularly looking forward to the discussion as it is likely to be plenty awkward.\u00a0 Wish me luck.<\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t really describe the depth of frustration I have felt along with a burning anxiety of what would happen if the leaks suddenly got worse. \u00a0 As the fuel leak was getting worse each day, I am confident that it was only a matter of time until we were really stuck.\u00a0 That would have not been fun.\u00a0 I can\u2019t even imagine what Brenda\u2019s reaction would have been.\u00a0 Not good, I am sure.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, we spent the day motoring along on very flat seas and settled in at an anchorage just outside the Alligator\/Pungo canal.<\/p>\n<p>For the last two days we have been traveling with our friend Dick and friend Denise aboard Willoway a 40\u2019 Freedom.\u00a0 We were thrilled to run into them in Elizabeth City and enjoyed hanging out with them for the last two days.<\/p>\n<p>Another great thing about visiting Elizabeth City is that the town offers free dockage which I happily took advantage of.\u00a0 Staying at the marina where Pandora\u2019s engine was worked on was fine for one night but we really wanted to be part of the action for the second night, along the waterfront.\u00a0 This photo shows just how pretty the spot we were tied up to was.\u00a0 Most of the boats were tied up bow or stern too a bit farther down the way but tying up alongside was much easier for us in the breeze that popped up when we arrived on Saturday.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/10-27-13a-001.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2526\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/10-27-13a-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/10-27-13a-001.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/10-27-13a-001-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #444444; font-size: 14px;\">One of the best things about cruising are the impromptu events that spring up when boats meet along the ICW.\u00a0\u00a0 Elizabeth City is known for their Rose Buddies but unfortunately, they don\u2019t throw parties for visiting cruisers on weekends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>However, that didn\u2019t stop us from having a party as I just passed the word on Saturday afternoon that everyone should meet for cocktails under a tent on the waterfront.\u00a0 Word got around and at 5:00 everyone showed up with drinks and food to share.\u00a0 It was great fun and, once again, we had the opportunity to reacquaint with old friends.\u00a0 I\u2019d guess that there were about 30 in attendance and everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves, me too.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the weather has moderated and it\u2019s now getting warmer during the day and evenings.\u00a0 That\u2019s not to say that we don\u2019t miss our heater but at least you can\u2019t see your breath in the cabin in the morning.\u00a0 That assumes that you don\u2019t think low 50s is too cold.\u00a0 Burrrr\u2026<\/p>\n<p>So, last night we will tucked into a little cove on the Alligator river and hang out with Dick and Denise. \u00a0 We got together for dinner and it was nice to catch up and share the sunset with them. \u00a0In the spirit of the moment and to celebrate heading south I blew my my conch shell as the sun set behind the cypress swamp.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, we are getting closer to &#8220;south&#8221;. \u00a0Tonight we visit a nice little town, Belhaven. \u00a0We haven&#8217;t been there before so we are looking forward to checking things out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday we moved from Elizabeth City to the Alligator River, our destination for the day.
