It\u2019s Wednesday afternoon and we are motoring along on our way toward Norfolk, our\u00a0<\/span>destination\u00a0for the day.\u00a0 Last night we were in a little harbor\/cove, our first in VA on this trip.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The harbor was barely big enough for us and the two catamarans that were anchored with us. \u00a0Both were larger than Pandora, one 44\u2019 and the other 47\u2019 and I was happy to have passed each of them as I sailed down the bay.<\/p>\n

Our spot for the night, Ashley\u2019s Cove, \u00a0was very well protected with a really tight entrance.\u00a0 There was barely enough water for us to make it in but then it opened up into a nice little peaceful spot.\u00a0 Holding was good in soft mud.\u00a0 Ashley\u2019s is off of Fleet Bay just north of the Rappahannock River in VA. \u00a0 Try saying Rappahannock three times fast. \u00a0Rapp….<\/p>\n

This is a shot of the area surrounding Ashley\u2019s Cove.\u00a0 The number of small harbors available in the Chesapeake is quite amazing.\u00a0 No wonder that waterfront property is less expensive than in the NE. \u00a0\"\"<\/a>This is a closeup of the cove.\u00a0 You can see how small it is.\u00a0 To look at it on the chart did make me wonder if I would be able to make it in.\u00a0 However, the guide book said.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cGo for it Bob!\u00a0 You can do it.\u201d \u00a0 So I did it.\"\"<\/a><\/span>The cove was surrounded by some very pretty homes, each more impressive than the last.\u00a0\u00a0 I particularly liked this one with a steel\u00a0 roof on the barn.\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/span>This one had an interesting structure on the cabana.\u00a0 I am not sure if it was a wind generator or a kinetic\u00a0<\/span>sculpture.\u00a0 I have seen generators that look like this. \u00a0And, what an amazing use of windows. \u00a0I’ll bet the local window store was thrilled to get this order.\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/span>How about this palatial spot?\u00a0 Pretty amazing.\u00a0 And, I\u2019ll bet that this is only used on weekends. \u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/span>I mentioned in yesterday\u2019s post that we saw our first pelicans of the trip.\u00a0 This photo was taken way off so it\u2019s not to crisp.\u00a0 However, behold, a (fuzzy) pelican.\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/span>So, as we continue along under power, we are making nearly 8kts with the tide.\u00a0 That\u2019s good.\u00a0 We should be at anchor in time for cocktails.\u00a0 That\u2019s double good.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our plan will be to stay in the Hampton\/Norfolk area through the weekend and then begin to make our way down the ICW, Dismal Swamp Canal and on to Beaufort NC.\u00a0 That part of the \u201cditch\u201d was our favorite and we are looking forward to doing it again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
