Honest!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been so long since Pandora&#8217;s been in the water, it&#8217;s hard to believe that she will ever be underway again. \u00a0However, the end of her time on the hard is nearing an end. Really!!! Trust me on this. \u00a0You know how they say that &#8220;life gets in the way&#8221;? \u00a0Well, it did. \u00a0However, things are getting back to normal again and it&#8217;s time to go sailing. \u00a0 Yipee!!!<\/p>\n<p>I am happy to report that Pandora&#8217;s about ready to launch with only a few more last minute items to attend to. \u00a0The yard is finishing up on the engine and I have applied the barrier coat and put on the bottom paint. \u00a0Doesn&#8217;t she look great?<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-13-13-0431.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2312\" title=\"8-13-13 043\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-13-13-0431.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-13-13-0431.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-13-13-0431-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>I also refurbished the warp cutter on the propeller. \u00a0This nifty device, a Spurs cutter, is designed to rotate with the prop and cut any lines that might entangle the prop shaft. \u00a0It has come in handy in the past, I can assure you. \u00a0 It wouldn&#8217;t be much fun to go for a swim to free the prop, especially at night. \u00a0Yuck! \u00a0It looks like it works and it does.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-005.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2313\" title=\"8-26-13 005\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-005.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-005.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-005-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>Another view shows the business end of the cutter pretty well. \u00a0 Best to keep your fingers away from these babies when they are spinning around. \u00a0The cutter to the left is kept stationary by the blue block on the cutlass bearing while the one on the right rotates with the propeller. \u00a0Very powerful and quite effective.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-007.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2314\" title=\"8-26-13 007\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-007.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-007.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-007-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #444444; font-size: 14px;\">Finally, the infamous rudder bearings. \u00a0The three black sleeves are the bearings and they will support the rudder shaft in the stern of the boat. \u00a0The center one, with the silver stripe on the top, has a &#8220;lip seal&#8221;, a rubber seal that will keep water out of the boat and yet still let the rudder move as needed. \u00a0It&#8217;s a pretty neat design.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The aluminum disk is the steering quadrant. Cables run around it and up to the wheel. \u00a0As you can imagine, this gives huge leverage to the wheel in keeping Pandora on course. \u00a0Also, the bronze lever is for the auto pilot. \u00a0Beefy as well. \u00a0 \u00a0All and all, a powerful combination to keep Pandora pointed in the right direction. \u00a0 \u00a0That&#8217;s assuming that I can get her back into the water. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2315\" title=\"8-26-13 012\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-012.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-012.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/8-26-13-012-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>I was delayed in getting the rudder back in as I messed up the measurements, that have to be within thousands of an inch, on the upper bearing so I had to reorder a new one. \u00a0However, in the grand scheme of things, not a major issue and besides, I had other things in my life that were slowing things up anyway. \u00a0 The new bearing should be at the boatyard now so I hope to fit it and prepare for putting the rudder back into the boat on Wednesday or Thursday. \u00a0 Fingers crossed that everything will fit. \u00a0So far, so good.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as Pandora is back in the water, perhaps by the end of the week, we hope to head out to Block Island and onto Newport. \u00a0I can&#8217;t wait.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been so long since Pandora&#8217;s been in the water, it&#8217;s hard to believe that she will ever be underway again. \u00a0However, the end of her time on the hard is nearing an end.
