{"id":1504,"date":"2013-01-30T18:24:25","date_gmt":"2013-01-30T18:24:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=1504"},"modified":"2013-01-30T18:24:25","modified_gmt":"2013-01-30T18:24:25","slug":"getting-into-the-bahamas-rhythm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/?p=1504","title":{"rendered":"Getting into the Bahamas rhythm!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s Wednesday morning \u00a0and we are in Black Point, Exuma, home to what is widely believed to be the best laundry in the Bahamas.\u00a0 We plan to test it out. \u00a0 There are plenty of boats here and the crowds at the laundry are testimony to the popularity of this spot as a good place to get clean sheets. \u00a0While there are plenty of machines, there are even more cruisers so it&#8217;s mobbed. \u00a0The island is also known for Loraine&#8217;s\u00a0coconut bread. \u00a0I ordered two loaves for pickup in the morning. \u00a0Yumm&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday we were treated to a snorkeling and shelling trip by our friends John and Wendy who live aboard their 65\u2019 Canadian built aluminum trawler, Windermer.\u00a0 \u00a0I have to say that this boat clearly qualifies as a yacht, complete with granite counter tops, a Sub-Zero fridge that\u2019s larger than our fridge at home in Essex along with two case freezers that hold hundreds of pounds of food. \u00a0 On a practical note, he uses about as much electricity in two hours as I use in 24 hours. \u00a0There is a price to pay for everything. \u00a0Nice boat though.<\/p>\n<p>Their dink, no let\u2019s call it a launch,\u00a0 has a 50hp engine\u00a0 so a trip to various spots was quite a treat for us.\u00a0 Tooling about in a center console launch at 30kts is a lot different than our little inflatable, that\u2019s\u00a0 for certain.<iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vVEYAnfdSO0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444;\">The goal of our outing was to visit some of their favorite snorking spots so we could collect shells and sand dollars.\u00a0 And, we found plenty. \u00a0\u00a0Brenda\u00a0 also snorkeled for the first time yesterday under the gentle guidance of Wendy. \u00a0 We were on a quest for\u00a0sand dollars and they were particularly fun to collect as they are just laying on the bottom. \u00a0The white ones, which we now have plenty of, are actually dead and bleached .\u00a0 Some were 3-4\u201d inches across.\u00a0\u00a0 What fun.<\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/1-30-12-020.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1507\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/1-30-12-020-e1359565265352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #444444;\">We also found lots of fun shells. \u00a0We had looked before but with their help, we went to the right spots. \u00a0It&#8217;s a lot easier that way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/1-30-12-022.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1508\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/1-30-12-022-e1359565196260.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>We snorkeled over a great reef that had loads of fish and wonderful purple sea fans.\u00a0\u00a0 Unfortunately, the photos underwater don\u2019t really do justice to how\u00a0beautiful\u00a0it really is.<\/p>\n<p>I enjoyed using the go-pro video camera and took some footage of us underway blasting along in the launch. \u00a0These videos aren&#8217;t that great but I can&#8217;t edit them right now. I hope that a video is better than 1000 well chosen words.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444;\">Here is one that I took at Thunderball Cave the other day that\u2019s fun.<\/span>I have to say that being able to snorkle each day is so amazing.\u00a0 However, in spite of my wetsuit, water in the 78 degree range begins to feel cold after a while.<iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1ZhUBys34sE\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And yes, it\u2019s still really windy.\u00a0 At least it\u2019s not hot as the breeze keeps things cool.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444;\">Wendy and John are just so nice and generous.\u00a0 We love spending time with them.\u00a0 Happily, their home port is in RI so we will see them next summer.\u00a0 They\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #444444;\">expect to come to our Gam in Essex on June 22<\/span><sup>nd<\/sup><span style=\"color: #444444;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Remember the pigs on Big Major I wrote about the other day? \u00a0 These porkers will happily take the food out of your hand. \u00a0Happily, not chunks of skin taken along with the snack.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/1-30-12-014.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1505\" headed over to a great spot where some cruisers had set up a tent and chairs. \u00a0What a great view to enjoy a sandwich with. \u00a0 Catch those James Bond shades. \u00a0Appropriate given the proximity to Thunderball Cave. \u00a0Looking cool in the shade?<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sailpandora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/1-30-12-016.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
